Nehemiah 1:11

Nehemiah

11O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man."

1 Samuel 1:10-11

Hannah

10In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the LORD. 11And she made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."
Psalm 35:13-14

David

13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth

and humbled myself with fasting.

When my prayers returned to me unanswered,

14 I went about mourning

as though for my friend or brother.

I bowed my head in grief

as though weeping for my mother.

Acts 9:3-16

Saul/Paul

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

5"Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked.

"I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. 6"Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

7The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

10In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, "Ananias!"

"Yes, Lord," he answered.

11The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight."

13"Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem.

Prayer is laying hold of God's willingness: Praise can lift the burden of grief

The highest privilege of man is to talk to God

God answers our prayers not because of our goodness but because of our position in Jesus Christ

Prayer is an interruption of personal ambition

The christian life is a battleground not a playground

Prayer does not change God but changes him who prays

Prayer is not a duty but a delight

Prayer crowns God with the honour and glory due to His name, and God crowns prayer with assurance and comfort.

Prayer requires that we stand in God's presence .. proclaiming to ourselves and to others that without God we can do nothing.

Prayer is essentially man standing and responding before His maker in wonder, awe and humility

Prayer is faith laying hold on God's promises

Life's outlook is a prayerful uplook

An attitude of prayer will create an atmosphere of prayer

Our prayer and God's mercy are like 2 buckets in a well, while one ascends, the other descend

The end of worry is prayer and the end of prayer is peace

Prayer is a powerful thing because God has bound it to himself

Prayer is the channel of all blessings and secret of power and life

When God's people turn to pray they are on the way to revival

Prayer changes everything, it changes the one who prays and it changes the one prayed for

Scripture has much to say about this important subject.

Jacob prays:

The angel blesses him and Esau's revenge is changed to love.

Joseph prays:

He is delivered from the prison in Egypt.

Moses prays:

Amalek is discomfited and Israel triumphs.

Joshua prays:

The day is lengthened and victory is gained.

David prays:

God forgives him and he goes out to win others to the Lord.

Jehoshaphat prays:

God turns away His anger and smiles.

Elijah prays:

A little cloud appears, it begins to rain and the famine is broken.

Elisha prays:

A widow's son is restored to life and food is provided.

Isaiah prays:

The Assyrian army is put to flight.

Hezekiah prays:

The sun dial is turned back and his life is prolonged.

Mordecai prays:

Haman is hanged and Israel is free.

Nehemiah prays:

The king's heart is softened in a moment.

Daniel prays:

The lions lose their appetite.

The Disciples pray:

The Holy Spirit is poured out.

The Church prays:

Peter is delivered from prison by an angel.

Paul and Silas pray:

The prison shakes, the doors are open, and the Philippian jailor is saved.

Prayer is Essential!

Prayer is not merely an occasional impulse to which we respond when we are in trouble: prayer is a life attitude. -Walter A.Mueller
